Google Chrome
September 4, 2008
Today we are bringing you the latest update from Google. The search engine giant is turning its domination to web browsers.

While the website’s competition is still going strong, and the Web is moving forward to Web 2.0, there’s not much change in the browser’s competition. Browser industry is still dominated by few players, such as Internet Explorer (Microsoft), Firefox (Mozilla), Opera (Opera Software), Safari (Apple), and few others. And then its the time when Google jumps the fray to spice up the competition.
Basically what Google doing is building a new browser based on open source projects already done by Firefox team and Webkit. In the Google Chrome (Chrome for short) webpage, Google describes the browser feature in general :
One box for everything
Type in the address bar and get suggestions for both search and web pages.
Thumbnails of your top sites
Access your favorite pages instantly with lightning speed from any new tab.
Shortcuts for your apps
Get desktop shortcuts to launch your favorite web applications.
We have tested Chrome Beta and all we could say is that we are satisfied with the results. The URL Box ( Chrome calls it “Omnibox”) , is not only capable of displaying list of visited sites as we type, but also suggested sites pulled straight from Google’s index. This will give user’s flexibility to go to other relevant sites without having to do site search on Google.
Another cool feature is thumbnails of your most recently visited sites, upon opening Chrome. In general this feature is like the Speed Dial extension on Firefox, only Chrome has it built in. Chrome also treats web applications as local applications, so they can be loaded locally on user’s PC or Mac, instead of waiting them to load forever in browser. This will ultimately saves user precious bandwidth and time.
In general, what Google offer in its Chrome Beta looks promising. Although some problems still arise, such as popping ad banners from websites browsed in Chrome, which can be easily blocked by Firefox’s AdBlocker Plus or No Script extensions. But Google promises more to give more space for third party’s plugins (extensions) in its coming stable versions.
